Background

Electronic Physics at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London (1984). MSc in Optoelectronics and Laser Physics, St Andrews University (1989), PhD in Optical Parametric Oscillators in the Infrared and their use in characterisation in semiconductors, St Andrews university (2001). Research scientist at AWE, Postdoctoral position for nonlinear optics at St Andrews University, Experimental coordinator for UK research at FELIX, in Netherlands, Free Electron Laser for Mid-Infrared wavelengths, Daresbury Laboratories for measurements of electron pulses at free electron lasers and Scientist at Central laser Facility (2009 to present).

Jonathan is a laser scientist at the Central Laser Facility and is responsible for the development of high-energy, high-repetition rate, cryogenically gas cooled, multi-slab, diode-pumped, solid-state laser systems. He is currently developing techniques for high-energy frequency conversion in nonlinear optics at 10 Hz. He has also taken the role of commissioning these amplifier systems at international facilities.

Jonathan is a programme committee member for the SPIE Laser Damage international conference. He has co-authored over 160 publications (See publications list on Research gate).

Research Interests

High-energy, diode pumped, solid-state laser development, nonlinear optics and their applications.
